A close battle for the lead resulted in a second place finish for Randersa on his debut

Last Sunday, Tommy Randersa joined the Super Formula grid for the first time to compete in a round of the series.
Starting from pole position, the German driver was overtaken by Sacha Fenestraz before turn 1, leading to a chase for 10 laps until the Franco-Argentine driver went into the pits for his mandatory pitstop.
Randersa continued on, as he had planned to pit around lap 30. However, he came in early once the team realized he was losing too much time with that strategy. He left the pits in 4th place.
Randersa managed to overtake two cars on his way back to the front but had a small off at the exit of the chicane, creating a larger gap between him and the race leader. He attempted to chase him down, but the race ran out of time and was only 49 laps instead of 53. Fenestraz won his first Super Formula race with Randersa second.
"Second is really good," said Randersa. "We were not expecting such a good result in the first place, so I am satisfied with it. I am also very happy that Sacha won the race, he deserves it, he's an amazing person and driver."
"Honestly, we shouldn't be up there. I think this result was a fluke that we can't replicate."
"The team is really good and has a lot of potential, it's just how I am right now. I'm not ready and worthy to come back to motorsport full time."
This puts Randersa 7th in the standings with just one round under his belt, but he's likely to fall as he hinted against coming back to the series this year.
